The Most Valuable Knowledge
We get much of our knowledge for life at school and, without any effort on our part, we add to this with the many general knowledge programs on television. We also continue to store up information as we come in contact with people in everyday life. However, the most valuable knowledge that anyone can obtain is received only from the Holy scriptures. Just how valuable is it? Listen to the words of the Lord Jesus "This is Life eternal that they might know Thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." So to know Christ has ETERNAL value.
Many people are not familiar with the message of the Bible. They never get round to reading it for themselves. Admitedly it is a daunting prospect to go through 66 books. Since I was priveliged to hear the message of God's love for sinners without opening the Bible myself I would gladly pass the news to everyone who has not heard. I was taught my need of Salvation when two missionaries from Africa preached the Gospel in my home town. You see, while it is not necessary to read the whole Bible, it is imperative to know that in God's sight we are sinners needing salvation. The Gospel is God's message of grace that "God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
After the first man, Adam, disobeyed God, all men have been unable to enjoy his presence, for God had declared that the result of sin was spiritual death: that is the reason we do not see God. And that is why the Lord Jesus told Nicodemus "Ye must be born again", meaning, it is necessary to have a spiritual birth because we were born away from God.
How good it is of God, to provide salvation for his disobedient creatures. But when we consider the way God has done it we must be confounded. It cost Christ inestimable suffering. We read in 1 Peter "who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree." Yes, He left Heaven and after a perfect life, He was crucified at Calvary offering Himself as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. God raised him from the dead and has highly exalted Him at His own right hand in Heaven. There is a little chorus we often sing;
Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.
There are many scriptures that back up the thoughts I have brought before you but I want you to ask yourself the question "What does the Lord Jesus mean to me?" Are you glad that He came to save you? God wants all men to repent, that is, to accept that you are a lost sinner and trust Christ as your saviour.
The Apostle Paul preached in Acts13:38 ... "Be it known unto you, that through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sin, and by Him all that believe are justified." Truly God has reached down to us in marvellous grace. Do make sure that you appreciate this knowledge that God has given you. I will conclude by quoting a well known verse: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life; but he that believeth not the Son shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth on him - John3:36."
